Excursions (2021)

Excursions is a three-movement work for trombone and piano that explores different modes of travel—physical, metaphorical, and spiritual. The first movement, Automotive, is energetic and rhythmic, evoking pulse, propulsion, and drive. The second movement, Maritime, shifts into a more fluid, lyrical space, suggesting the gentle sway and mystery of a journey by sea. The final movement, The Trav’ler, is a reimagination of the spiritual Poor Wayfaring Stranger, offering a soulful reflection on life’s deeper journey—rooted in longing, perseverance, and hope. Each movement is its own excursion, connected by the expressive range and storytelling power of the trombone and piano.
